3 Reasons to Be Thankful as a Business Owner
As the year winds down and Christmas is just around the corner, it’s the perfect time to reflect on what we’re thankful for. For me, being thankful is more than just a once-a-year practice—it's a way of life. At the heart of this gratitude is my faith, the gift of Jesus, and the opportunity to live a life that impacts others.
But today, I want to focus on three reasons I’m thankful as a business owner. Whether you’re already running your own business or thinking about starting one, these insights might resonate with you. Let’s dive in!
1. Freedom to Control Your Time
One of the greatest blessings of being a business owner is the ability to take control of your time. I remember the days when I worked as an employee. There were moments I had to miss important events because “it wasn’t a good time” for the company. It was frustrating and, honestly, heartbreaking.
As a business owner, those days are behind me. Now, if there’s a family event, a game, or an awards ceremony, I’m there. No approvals needed. This freedom allows us to prioritize what truly matters—our loved ones.
2. Unlimited Income Potential
As an employee, there’s often a ceiling on how much you can earn. Even if you work extra hours, there’s a limit. But as a business owner, the sky is truly the limit.
Want to increase your income? Launch a new product, add a service, or get creative with new opportunities. Your earning potential is tied directly to your efforts and ideas—not a fixed paycheck.
While some might think job security as an employee is safer, we’ve all seen pensions disappear and markets crash. As a business owner, you’re in control. That empowerment makes the journey so rewarding.
3. The Opportunity to Impact and Influence
For my wife and me, this is the most important reason. While financial success is great, what truly matters is how we use it to impact others.
As business owners, we have the resources to bless others. Whether it’s supporting a struggling single mom, funding community projects, or simply mentoring someone, we can make a difference. This ability to influence lives goes far beyond dollars and cents—it’s about leaving a legacy of kindness and generosity.
Reflect and Take Action
As we close out 2024, I encourage you to take a moment to reflect on what you’re thankful for—whether in your personal life, career, or business. Write it down. Celebrate it. And if you’re still dreaming of starting your own business but aren’t sure where to begin, I’d love to help.

Being a business owner isn’t just about financial freedom or controlling your time—it’s about purpose. It’s about using the blessings we’ve been given to make a difference in the world.
